Getting More Out of Every Drop: How Resgenix Is Changing Water-Use Efficiency
Like the weather, moisture management has become a regular topic of discussion for today’s farmers. What’s the best way to manage water and prevent runoff and erosion? How can we ensure irrigation and spray application efficiency without investing in more equipment, more time and more energy?
The answer is Resgenix®. This revitalized liquid polyacrylamide product is applied through conventional sprayers or irrigation systems that are already in place on your acres. Once it’s deployed, Resgenix acts like tiny sponges in the soil, strengthening water-holding capacity and reducing standing water due to poor infiltration.
"This product can stretch the efficiency of our water and give us similar results with less water applied. It’s a game-changer because it will really help make these areas a sustainable option for irrigation in the long run." — Jim Talbert, Product Specialist based in Kansas
That’s especially important to Bruce Barrett, who farms 1,200 acres of potatoes in the Texas Panhandle. Barrett says because the water situation has become critical in his area, he’s always looking to be more efficient with it.
“We need to keep water in the root zone longer,” he says. “Resgenix helped do that. It did very well for us. We could dig for longer periods of time without adding more water, and that is important to us.”
Further south in Seminole, Texas, Jake Giesbrecht says he noticed earlier — and more robust — growth in his peanut and cotton crops after applying Resgenix.
“We’re always looking for ways to utilize water,” says Giesbrecht, who has farmed in Seminole for more than 33 years. “There’s just not enough of it. Down here we need all the help we can get.”
That kind of performance is what makes Resgenix nothing short of a groundbreaking water-use management tool, according to Helena Product Manager Gene Maulding.
“There’s no other product on the market that competes with it,” says Maulding, of Muleshoe, Texas. “Being water soluble and having the ease of use that is does … there’s really nothing else like it.”
In Wakefield, Nebraska, Carter Urwiler can literally see the difference between the acres of soybeans where Resgenix was applied and those that went without it. Urwiler has been dealing with water challenges on his farm for years, so he accepted a Helena representative’s offer to try Resgenix on one half of his acres — but he didn’t know which half was getting it. He figured it out quickly enough, though.
“I could see with my own eyes that the north half of the pivot was way greener and way taller,” Urwiler says. “I’m just seeing greener plants, thicker canopies and taller plants. Some of the beans that didn’t get Resgenix aren’t filling out like the ones in the north are. I know there’s going to be a significant improvement in yield.”
At its core, Resgenix is all about increasing water efficiency. It works by increasing pore space and improving water movement, which helps the efficiency of the fertilizers and nutrients in the soil.
Other benefits of Resgenix that matter most:
- Mitigation of erosion, runoff and soil moisture evaporation loss
- Safe for use in all crops due to minimal phytotoxicity
- Better soil aggregation in all soil types
- Reduces soil crusting
- Application versatility and easy mixing
- Labeled for use through all conventional application and irrigation methods
Helena Product Manager Kody Blochowitz says one of his favorite traits of Resgenix is how convenient it is for on-farm application because the liquid formula is compatible with most crop management products.
“Polyacrylamides are very good at what they do, but not all polyacrylamides are very user-friendly,” says Blochowitz, of Julesburg, Colorado. “Resgenix does not require special equipment. It does not require a special pass. It is readily mixed with most fertilizer blends that would be going through a pivot. It can also be easily mixed to go through a sprayer. It truly is an easy solution to a very big problem.”
