Using Helena’s HyGround for Better Field Decisions
Spring is a great time to consider Helena’s HyGround® program. As winter forage crops are coming out, soil conditions are typically ideal for getting started. HyGround is Helena’s premier soil sampling program that is tailored to custom fit each individual grower. It gives detailed information on soil variability and can help target pinpoint areas for nutrient recommendations. Once the field analysis is complete, a Helena sales representative will go over a personalized nutrient program to fit both the soils needs, as well as a grower’s budget. A program can be used for intense nutrient applications, or it can be adjusted to amend for a series of seasons to come.
A HyGround Map Book paints a perfect picture of the field’s soil analysis given from a lab. This analysis shows values varying from one sample site to the next. These detailed maps can give an accurate idea of where the problem areas lie, and it can also show just how bad they really are depending on the amount of samples that were taken. The number of samples taken can depend on what the ultimate goal of the program might be. The program can be used for diagnosing problem areas, as well as for investment purposes.
Once a recommendation has been written, a variable rate controller file can be created, and the application process can begin. By going with a variable rate application versus a traditional straight rate, we can place the right amount of product exactly where it is needed most. After the initial program has been completed, the soil can be resampled at a future date to see how well the soil is being amended. This also allows for adjustments to the original recommendations if there are any modifications that are needed for future fertility applications.
Whether you’re interested in diagnosing your soil conditions or making a major financial decision, consider using the Helena HyGround program.
