Overview

Despite prices pulling back from recent highs after the report release, the numbers were within estimates and held no major surprises. The bulls were hoping for smaller US corn stocks based on the improved export pace, but the USDA increased stocks by a modest amount. The other numbers for US and world stocks show corn stocks are shrinking on the margins, but SA yields are not shrinking enough to add any bullish spark.

Other news was limited as nothing new on the trade/tariff front was announced today with no rumors that anything is expected the rest of the week. Weekly exports should be solid again for corn as Mexico continues to be a frequent buyer.

The charts look great with Dec corn making a new 8-month high in early trade while Nov bean and July wheat continue to trade comfortably in the upper end of the recent range above technical support. The funds continue to be buyers in all three which is providing the bullish volume.

This will be today’s only comment as the markets have settled down and trading on either side of unchanged in a quiet trade.
